SELF CARE DURING YOUR PAUSAL JOURNEY

jacqueline kent specialist well-being Aug 31, 2022

Self care is a term that you may have heard a lot during your Pausal journey, but you may be wondering ‘what exactly is it, and how can I do more of it?’

Until we REALLY need it, we often don’t realise how important it is – but why wait until that time? Why not make it a part of our routine to help better support ourselves during this time, and for the future?

I think a lot of women have adopted the story that anything ‘selfish’ (eg something that contains the word ‘self’ is a negative thing. To want or need something for themselves is not right. It has them thinking or believing they are not thinking of others and that this is not good. Whether that’s something they’ve grown up with, or something they’ve adopted due to their environment, it needs to stop.

We can introduce simple self care as part of our daily routine, and when we do, everything changes. Especially during our menopausal years when our resources are already stretched, by giving ourselves that time, and investing in ourselves - even just a a few minutes each day or every few days, we can gradually learn to out ourselves higher up the list. It doesn’t even need to cost money.

A really super simple, effective thing like ‘clearing away the cobwebs’ in your mind, getting negativity out of your head by writing in a journal for 10 minutes, meditate for a few minutes and switch your busy mind off, listen to upbeat happy music, or even just take a look in the mirror and smile at yourself – remind yourself exactly how fabulous you are. Stop the negative self-talk and be kinder to yourself.

Out of all the people you will meet in your lifetime, YOU are the one person you will spend 100% of that time with, so maybe it’s time to stop criticising and start nurturing. Be your own best friend. Treat yourself if you were any other human being who you want succeed.

Celebrate your wins.

Do this every day, and see what changes as a result.

Be kinder to yourself every day, and do it with my love. You are worth it.
