Weight Loss is Possible in Menopause

Menopause is a wonderful new chapter in a woman's life! As our bodies transition and evolve, we may encounter some new challenges, especially when it comes to our weight. But, don't let that dampen your spirits! There are plenty of exciting and positive things you can do to stay healthy and feel fantastic during this time.

First, let's talk about why weight gain is a common concern during menopause. Our bodies are truly incredible and undergo a lot of changes, but the hormonal imbalances that come with this stage of life can lead to changes in our metabolism, making it more difficult to lose weight. But, don't worry! This is where healthy eating habits and physical activity come into play.

How to lose weight during menopause

You're probably reading all of this and thinking, "I may as well give up right now. I'll never be able to lose weight now!!!"' But don't give up quite yet! You can shift those extra pounds on your belly whether you're peri-menopausal, menopausal or nowhere near; it just takes a more uniquely tailored approach.

#1 Eliminate unnecessary eating

Have you noticed how easy it is to eat just because the clock says that it's mealtime? Or find yourself eating in between meals? This kind of mindless eating will have a detrimental impact on your waistline. You end up eating more than your body needs, you feel more uncomfortable afterwards, and you're more likely to become overweight.

Also, ensure you have a nutrient-dense diet filled with various nutritious foods like colourful vegetables, lean proteins, healthy fats, herbs and spices, which can help support your metabolism and provide you with the energy and nutrients you need for optimal health. It's not about restriction but about nourishing your body and fuelling it with the goodness it deserves.

 #2 Get the right exercise

Along with a healthy diet, incorporating physical activity into your routine can also help you maintain a healthy weight. Exercise is great for boosting your metabolism, burning fat, and giving you a healthy dose of endorphins, which can help improve your mood. Find an activity you enjoy, whether it's walking, swimming, yoga, or strength training, and make it a part of your weekly routine. It's a fun and exciting way to stay active, and it will have you feeling fantastic in no time

#3. Identify underlying health conditions

It's also important to address any underlying health conditions that may be contributing to weight gain during menopause. This could include conditions like thyroid disorders, insulin resistance, or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Working with a health specialist to diagnose and manage these conditions can help improve your overall health and minimise the impact of weight gain.

#4 Find support

In addition to diet and exercise, there are also other ways to maintain a healthy and positive outlook during menopause. Finding a supportive community, whether it's in person or online, can help you feel connected and empower you to take charge of your health.

#5. Manage Stress

Practising self-care, like relaxing and recharging, can also help you feel your best. You may feel irritability, stress and mood changes as menopause approaches and on top of this, you probably have plenty of other stressors in your life, and it's not as if we can simply wipe these things away and feel better. Learn how to manage the stress in your life better, so you don't get to the point where you're feeling overwhelmed and depressed or it starts to impact your hormonal balance. I'd recommend guided visualisation, hypnosis, yoga, meditation, walking in nature or qi gong. And remember to have fun!

This is a new chapter in your life, filled with exciting possibilities. Embrace it and enjoy the journey. Take up a new hobby, plan a trip, or try something new. You're never too old to have fun and live life to the fullest.

Menopause can bring new challenges, but it's also a time to embrace change and focus on your health and well-being. By incorporating healthy eating habits, physical activity, and self-care into your routine, you can feel fantastic and enjoy this new chapter in your life. So, let's raise a glass to this exciting new stage and all the positive things it brings!
