YOUR MENOPAUSE QUESTIONS - Gluten Sensitivity

nutrition q&a rebecca wakefield specialist Oct 02, 2022

Rebecca Wakefield, Nutritionist answers:

‘Non-celiac gluten sensitivity is well researched but not recognised as an issue by conventional medicine. Many women can be sensitive to gluten which doesn't always manifest as digestive symptoms, other symptoms include joint pains and brain fog. All of these symptoms are also related to perimenopause so it could be that gluten insensitivity is exacerbating your hormonal imbalances worsening symptoms, however depending on your age and if you have had stomach problems for a while, it may not be perimenopause and just symptoms triggered by your sensitivity to gluten. Further investigations would be needed around your gut health and immune response to gluten to see whether you could eat gluten again.’
